Hello there, A lot has been going on lately. Among other things, the local Zambian currency, the kwacha, has been losing its value at the fastest speed possible.
The Zambia National Commercial Bank, a division of Rabobank of Netherlands, has floated shares on the Lusaka Stock Exchange. The Initial Public Offering, which is basically when a company issues common stock or shares to the public for the first time, has generated a lot of buzz and excitement.
All this without reason. But the excitement is not necessary: ordinary Zambians did not participate significantly. Institutional investors carried the day.
So, the talk of empowerment, especially when it is applied to such undertakings, can only be taken as meaningless!!
See you later,
MM
